Part of a series. Next article: New Missions Support Center Means More Resources for the Harvest

The old adage, “what you put into something in the beginning you will find throughout its entire life,” is true of the SBCV. Everywhere you look in SBCV life, you’ll see evidence of seeds that were planted at the beginning. This convention was created with a strong conviction regarding the inerrancy of God’s Word, the burden to plant new churches, and the desire to give at least 50% of its budget to Cooperative Program missions worldwide. More than 14 years later, those foundations stand strong.
The Vision 20/20 Report that messengers to the 2009 SBCV Annual Homecoming unanimously approved builds on the SBCV’s foundation and heritage with six bold challenges (to read the full report, go to this article). The churches, missionaries, and staff of the SBCV are working cooperatively to fulfill the Vision 20/20 emphases.
Beginning Monday, January 31, the Glen Allen Mission Support Center (GAMSC) will move to a four-day workweek. GAMSC staff will be available 7:30 AM – 5 PM Monday through Thursday. This cost-saving measure will assist the SBCV in its goal to be both a “sacrificial” and “streamlined missional network.”
It is important to note that SBCV missionary staff will remain available for ministry 24/7. On Fridays, when GAMSC is closed, missionaries may be reached through the SBCV automated switchboard. Dr. Jeff Ginn, executive director, notes, “This altered schedule is one of several steps that have been taken in an effort to faithfully steward the resources entrusted to the SBCV. The bottom line is that we are intent on bringing maximum resources to bear upon the harvest for the glory of our great God.”
