American Samoa Update

SBCV Disaster Relief Team in American Samoa

Five SBCV Disaster Relief workers arrived in American Samoa the end of March and will be doing repair/rebuild work in response to a Tsunami in the area the fall 2009. Please pray for the team to have opportunities to share Christ. They will return to the U.S. April 11.

The following is an update from Friday, April 2, 2010:

The team from Virginia (SBCV) is installing ceilings and floors, hanging doors, and finishing trim work.  Larry and Elaine Koch are sharing the wealth of experience from nearly three months of island living with Russ and Clara Hohmann, who are taking over team coordination duties. Pray for these volunteers as they celebrate the Easter season with the people of American Samoa.

The following update was received March 29th:

On Sunday (March 28, 2010) we had a joint worship service with the area Baptist churches representing various language groups here in American Samoa. What a wonderful time experiencing God's love for people of all races. This must be something like what heaven will be like.

We continue to work on damaged houses. We have almost finished one but so many more need restoring.

The Utah/Idaho team left at 11:40 pm Sunday and the remaining three members of our Virginia Team arrived - exhausted but smiling.

We had a terrible thunderstorm Saturday night - knocked out internet for about 36 hours - thought the world had forgotten us!!

At the end of the two and one half hour service on Sunday, we had this group photo taken. If you look closely, you can see perhaps the oldest man in the photo – me (Ron).

God's love to all of you.
