Disaster Relief Team Update

Here is an update from Bob Williams:

Our SBCV disaster relief team was diverted during its Sunday travel from Rhode Island to Northborough, Massachusetts. We will be doing flood recovery work in southeastern Massachusetts. Our team consists of Barbara Otto, LC Reid, and me from First Baptist Church of Norfolk, Richard and Shirley Bellinger of Midway Baptist Church in Phenix, and Michael Smith of Thomas Road Baptist Church of Lynchburg.

A glorious day that the Lord has made. A beautiful sunrise in Massachusetts. Our disaster relief team devotion this morning will be focused on Matthew 5:13-16, in particular verse 16; "...let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." We pray that our work today in flood recovery will bring glory to God.

Our disaster relief team is based in Northborough, Massachusetts at the home site of Luther Rice which today is a conference center, the home of the Baptist Convention of New England, the New England branch of Southern Seminary, and the location of Luther Rice Memorial Baptist Church.

On Monday, our disaster relief team of 6 workers was divided into two three person teams to undertake home visits to undertake damage assessments as prelude for future work teams. One of the 3 person teams was sent to the Bridgewater area of Massachusetts and the other to the Lowell area.

Today, Tuesday, April 20, the devotion for our disaster relief team will be from I Peter 1:3-4; "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can not perish, spoil, or fade..."

We pray that as we work with the families affected by these storms that we will be a source of hope during their loss, particular showing the living hope that we have through our faith in Jesus Christ and our relationship with God that does not perish, spoil and fade like the physical things of this world.

Today, we will work in Lowell, Massachusetts with two families who have flooded basements. Both families are couples in their 80s. We pray that we will bring God's blessing to them, and that God will be glorified
