Mission Opportunities 2010 R&R Kits - Thank You

E. Scott Smith

Ms. Sawyer,

I understand you personally were instrumental and a driving force behind all the unbelievable care packages sent to the Soldiers of 1-116th Infantry (Task Force Overlord) Virginia Army National Guard presently serving in Iraq.

I want to send my heartfelt thanks for your incredible work and thoughtfulness. I do not exaggerate when I tell you those were the coolest and best received care-packages we have seen since we've been deployed - and we've received quite a bit.

Chaplain Moore told me that the Southern Baptist Outreach led by you, headed up the project. I would love to keep in touch and make sure you are invited to our Welcome Home Ceremony and our Yellow Ribbon events.

From the bottom of my heart - thank you. Your countless hours of hard work paid off if it is measured by the Soldier's happiness. The video in each package was particularly well done.

I confess I personally accepted your gifts and truly enjoyed the movie "The Sandlot" and look forward to watching it with my son Chase when I get home.

Our Soldiers are doing incredible work here traveling hundreds of miles daily to deliver supplies for other units conducting operations across the Theater of Iraq. Their missions last between 5-12 hours one way and the next day they turn around and come back. Their convoys stretch 2-3 miles, it is hard to imagine without seeing it yourself. I've attached a picture of one of the convoys that puts it all in perspective.

My mother is always trying to find ways to give back...to the community, the Soldiers, and other public servants and if she were living in Virginia I would have her give your organization a call because you all do such great work - something I know she would be proud to be a part of.

On behalf of the Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry please accept my sincere thanks. You and the folks of Southern Baptist Churches of the Commonwealth are to be commended and will not soon be forgotten by the men of Task Force Overlord.

Respectfully,

E. SCOTT SMITH

SBCV,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sending the morale and welfare kits recently received by 1st BN 116th IN, headquartered in Lynchburg VA. All the troops appreciate your assistance and your concern for our morale. Duty in the far flung places of the world can be a burden, and it helps to know that there are people that care enough to go out of their way to make sure we are remembered.

Thank you again,

SGT Richard McCormick
