Mobilizing Churches

Mission Opportunities in 2011

VA Soldier R & R Kits

January – February

Year after year, our soldiers continue to fight for our freedom. It has been a long and devastating war. We don’t want to forget them! Let’s continue to encourage them by sending items that will bring pleasure in the midst of turmoil. SBCV churches will be preparing Rest & Relaxation Kits to be sent to Virginia soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

February – March

There are over 5,000 SBC missionaries serving throughout North America. Giving to this offering goes directly to help pay their salaries and help them purchase supplies that will aid in furthering the Gospel presentation. One hundred percent of this offering directly supports the North American Mission Board (NAMB) missionaries and their ministries, including church planters.

Blankets for Childcare Disaster Relief Trailers

March – April

We all know how comforting favorite blankets can be to children. In disasters, these blankets are often destroyed, just when the children need them most. On our SBCV Childcare Disaster Relief Trailer, we want to have a supply of small blankets made especially for children to comfort them when they visit the trailer.

Southern Cross Bible Distribution

April – May

Each year, more than one million Han Chinese visit Southeast Asia, where volunteer teams are able to legally distribute Bibles and religious materials. For a small contribution of $1, a Bible can be purchased in the Han Chinese heart language. SBCV churches can play a vital role in purchasing these Bibles and other religious materials and helping fund their distribution.

Back-to-School Backpacks for DC Children

June – July

God continues to work through SBCV church planters to reach families in Washington, DC. Even though this is the capital of our nation and there are many affluent people living in the area, there are also large numbers of families living in poverty. Providing children with basic school supplies will greatly help these families and open doors for our church planters to share the Gospel. This is a great project for all ages!

Hygiene Kits for ARM

August – September

Central Appalachia has been described as the “poverty pocket of America” and includes 37% of the 100 poorest counties in the US. The Appalachian Regional Ministry (ARM) serves Central Appalachia, a region that spans portions of 10 states, including Virginia. Join the efforts of ARM in meeting needs by putting together a Hygiene Kit that will meet a great need for a family living there.

Vision Virginia State Missions Offering

September – October

The Vision Virginia State Missions Offering will support missions and evangelism efforts across the Commonwealth of Virginia as God continues to provide opportunities for ministry. Some of the ministries within our state aided by this offering include Disaster Relief, food distribution, land grants, church planting needs, and much more. Supporting this offering will help spread the Gospel in Virginia and DC.

Eyeglasses for Uruguay

October – November

As we continue our partnership with the IMB in Uruguay, we can help supply medical clinics with eyeglasses. The need for glasses is great, and most people in Uruguay cannot afford them. By donating your used glasses, you help open doors for missionaries to share the Gospel with those who visit the clinics.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

November – December

Your gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering allow more and more Southern Baptists to serve as international missionaries and reach those around the world who have never heard the name of Jesus. One hundred percent of your offerings go directly to support the over 5,000 missionaries around the world working in the field.

More information pertaining to these projects is forthcoming from SBCV through the Proclaimer, here on the SBCV website, and mailings to churches. Please call 888-234-7716 for more details.
