Introduction

Ninety-five percent of the Uruguayan people have never heard the Gospel. Uruguay is one of the most secular and wealthy nations in all of South America, with many pockets of the country being less than 1% evangelized. Partner with other SBCV churches for Gospel distribution, prayer walking and evangelism events.

Short-term Mission Trips with the
Rio de la Plata Partnership
The partnership strategy is called GAP (Gospel Advancement Project) and mission teams have the benefit of a plug-and-play trip where the missionary sends a volunteer missions packet with all the information teams need to plan and prepare for the trip.
To make it even simpler, after teams purchase plane tickets, they pay just one price per person to the missionary. This takes care of lodging, ground transportation, meals, translators, and supplies while in country.
Teams will arrive at the airport where they meet the missionary and head to the Barrio (neighborhood) where they will be working and living all week. The goal for each team is to start the week with preparing the soil through prayer walks and gospel distribution.
We want to put a gospel of John in every house in the Barrio that a team visits.
Throughout the week, teams will be interacting with people living in the Barrio through ministries like:
- Servant Evangelism
- Community Surveys
- Relationship Building
Toward the end of the week, the team will invite everyone in the Barrio to a central location (usually a neighborhood park) where they will conduct some type of event. The event can be as creative as teams want it to be, for example, we once had a team which included artists. They decided to have an art show, art demonstration, and a give away drawing for some artwork. We had another team that did a North American tasting buffet where they cooked all kinds of North American foods and let people come try the flavors of the U.S.
The idea is to:
- Draw people out of their homes and interact with them.
- Share the Gospel with them.
- Identify a person of peace in the Barrio who will open up their home for a Bible study that may in time turn into a church.
The on-field missionaries will follow up with the prospects.
When teams return, they may either choose to go back to the same Barrio and work with the same people who would hopefully be in a new church, or they may go to another Barrio and start a fresh work there.
