Multiplying Churches

The SBC of Virginia has been a church planting convention from its very beginning. God laid it in the heart of the SBCV’s founding executive director, Doyle Chauncey, that the way to build and grow a newly formed state convention was by way of church planting. Today, one quarter of our members churches are churches which have been started since the time of our launch in 1997. By the time we reach 1000 member churches in 2020, more than one half will be new church starts.

We have also been a convention which has held to the premise that it is churches which give birth to new churches, which in turn give birth to still more churches. Those are more than words to the churches of the SBCV. Since our beginning, a full 33% of our member churches have actively engaged in sponsoring a new church by means which includes financial giving over and above their Cooperative Program gifts. This reality far surpasses a national average of 6%. To God be the glory for all that He is doing through our churches to spread the gospel through church planting.

Throughout 2009, the following churches which have made a new commitment to sponsor a church plant have been recognized by the presentation of an Eagle Award in a worship service in their church. Your church health strategists and church planting strategists have been honored to be able to affirm and celebrate the furthering of the gospel through these churches’ investment in church planting.
