Christmas has come early to the churches of the SBC of Virginia. On December 21, 2010, the US Census Bureau revealed that the Father has entrusted us with one million more souls with whom to share the good news of Jesus. From 2000 to 2010, the population of Virginia grew from 7,078,515 to 8,001,024 – an increase of 13%. In the same time period, Washington DC grew from 579,059 to 601,723 – an increase of 5 %. It is a tremendous opportunity and responsibility we have each been given to herald the Gospel.
At this time of the year, we are all drawn to the manger as were the angels and the shepherds. The story of the birth of Jesus represents hope and redemption for all who will receive Him as Savior. Maira Granados is such a person whose life has been transformed by the Christ of Christmas. Her story can be seen at www.sbcv.org/events/annualhomecoming.htm. As in the story of Maira, church planting is an effective means of bringing the gospel to those who are not yet followers of Christ. The churches of the SBC of Virginia have embraced the call to plant 400 new churches in the next 10 years. Has your church begun to make plans to plant a new church in order to reach some portion of the people who reside in Virginia and Washington DC? God has placed them here within your reach so that through you He can extend the reach of the gospel to transform lives.
