2008
State Missions Offering

Acts 1:8 "... you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

What an opportunity to focus, pray, and give to your "Judea"... Virginia... through the 2008 SBCV State Missions Offering.  God is doing a lot in Virginia and one of the best ways to be a part of it is to give.  With the hundreds of churches and church plants that the SBCV and partners like you take part in, the lives of the eight million Virginia residents are being touched by the hands of Jesus Christ.  Click here and see for yourself all that God is doing through your state Baptist convention to bring people to Christ every year!

If you would like to give to help support the cause of the SBCV then consider giving to the 2008 State Missions Offering or throughout the year you can give to your local SBCV church and percentage will go directly to the SBCV.  Click here for more information.

 Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

5,000 North American Mission Board missionaries throughout the United States and Canada and the life and work of Annie Walker Armstrong (1850-1938) are honored when we give to the annual offering for home missions named after her. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His salvation.

As a tireless servant of God and a contagious advocate and supporter of mission efforts throughout the world, Annie Armstrong led women to unite in mission endeavors that ultimately led to the formation of Women's Missionary Union, for which she served as the first corresponding secretary. Annie believed in Christ with all her heart, but it was her hands that expressed that belief in tangible ways. She spent a great amount of time typing and handwriting letters in support of missions. Many of these letters were quite lengthy and all were filled with conviction that more could and should be done in our mission efforts.  In 1893 alone, she wrote almost 18,000 letters!  Annie rallied churches to give more, pray more, and do more for reaching people for Christ.  She also never hesitated to use her hands to reach out to hug a child or distribute food and clothing and the Word of God to those in need. Her hands held her own Bible as she studied to know how best to share Gods love with others. And, most important, Annie was a woman of prayer, folding her hands in prayer to intercede for the missionaries and for those they were helping discover Christ. (anniearmstrong.com).

If you are interested in helping reach the lost in your 'Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria' please consider giving to your local SBCV Annie Armstrong Easter Offering on or around Easter Sunday.  Or if you are interested in supporting national missionaries now, donate online through the website by clicking here!

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

“How many million more souls are to pass into eternity without having heard the name of Jesus?" That ever-present question frequently found in the letters of Lottie Moon seared her heart as she planted her life as a missionary to China a century ago. During the past five generations, Southern Baptists have been motivated by Lottie Moon to plant their lives in missions by going or supporting others who are carrying the gospel light into the darkness.

Charlotte Diggs Moon was born on the 12th of December in 1840 in Albemarle County, Virginia.  Lottie attended Albemarle Female Institute, the female counterpart of the University of Virginia.  She was one of the first women in the South to receive a master’s degree in 1861.  She actually rebelled against Christianity until she was in college, however, but in December of 1858 she dedicated her life to Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Charlottesville.  Lottie didn't head to China until a year after her sister, Edmonia, had been appointed there in 1872.  She served in the Shantung province for thirty-nine years as a missionary, teaching in schools and often traveling to share the good news with women and children.  The letters Lottie Moon often wrote home described the great physical and spiritual needs of the Chinese people and urged Southern Baptists to go to China or give so that others could go.  By 1888, Southern Baptist women had organized and helped collect sufficient funds to send workers needed in China and in 1918 the Woman's Missionary Union named the annual Christmas offering for international missions after the woman who had urged them to start it (imb.org).

If you have the same heart as Lottie and are interested in seeing many people overseas be reached for the Gospel of Christ, then consider donating when the offering is presented around Christmas at your local SBCV church.  Or, if you would like to give to the effort now then click here!
