Rio de la Plata Partnership
More than thirteen million people in Buenos Aires and some 95% of those who live in the tiny nation of Uruguay are in need of a Savior they don't even know. Partner with the missionaries on the ground to reach out and touch countless lives with the Gospel message. While this may not be deepest, darkest Africa it is without doubt just as dead and dying without the Good News. This is urban ministry with cities and communities not all that different from our own yet a lostness beyond understanding.
Two mission opportunities await you. ABBA, Adopt a Barrio in Buenos Aires, enables your church to work in the Coghlan barrio of Buenos Aires to do prayer walking, Gospel distribution, and evangelism events. Take ownership as you partner with missionaries and God to touch this part of the world. GAP, Gospel Advancement Project, is the second missions opportunity awaiting you. Uruguay is one of the most secular and wealthy nations in all of South America. They live the "good life" but do not know what they are missing. Partner with other SBCV churches in Gospel distribution, prayer walking, and evangelism events. For more information, contact tinmon@sbcv.org.
AFRICA
For the past three years, the SBCV, in partnership with the International Mission Board (IMB), has sent volunteer teams to assist career missionaries in Zambia and Kenya. During each of these mission endeavors, numbers of nationals have responded to the translated Gospel message. In addition to reaching targeted remote locations in Zambia, new people groups have also been discovered. In recent trips to Kenya, volunteer teams assist career missionaries in presenting the Gospel through “Story Cloth” to the Massai people.Dates for mission trips in 2008:Zambia: Mission trips continue into 2008. The upcoming dates are as follows: June 21-July 6 and October date (TBA) Kenya: Mission trips continue into 2008. The upcoming dates are as follows: March 1-17 and a Fall date (TBA)The trips have limited availability in terms of size and must be arranged through the various team leaders that lead each team. For more information about mission trips through the Africa partnership, please contact your area missionary.
APPALACHIAN REGIONAL MINISTRY
As Southern Baptists respond to the physical needs in Appalachia, God is opening hearts to receive the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Appalachian Regional Ministry (A.R.M.) is a Cooperative Program ministry of the eleven Southern Baptist State Conventions of the A.R.M. region in partnership with the North American Mission Board. It works to bring together mission volunteers, local churches, and events. A.R.M. responds to the spiritual and physical needs of people living in the Appalachian region. SBCV partners with local churches along the Appalachian Trail to minister to hikers and bicyclists from all over the world visiting along the Appalachian Trail.
In 2008, SBCV churches sent Hiker Evangelism Packs to be distributed and share the love of Christ with hikers, family, & friends. Many children who live in the Appalachian region are without the basic necessities of life. SBCV churches prepared Health Packs for Children for those children in need in Appalachia.
SOUTHERN CROSS
Southern Cross is a great mission opportunity through the SBCV that reaches hundreds of thousands of Chinese vacationers in Thailand each year. In partnership with workers in Thailand, we are able to give out Bibles and packets of outreach materials (including the Jesus film) to Chinese individuals and families who are now allowed to travel outside of China. These individuals take the materials back into China where it is estimated each packet will reach seven to ten individuals with the Good News. It is an incredible opportunity to reach people from a closed country with the glorious Good News of Jesus Christ!
Your church can get involved by participating in the Southern Cross Bible Project. God continues to open doors for us to be able to place Bibles and other Christian literature in the hands of the Han Chinese tourist. In addition to Thailand, doors have now opened in Singapore and New Zealand for teams to distribute this literature. SBCV adopted the project in 2004, and we are continuing to collect money to purchase Bibles. For a donation of $2, a Bible can be purchased in the Chinese language. The need is greater than ever for more Bibles, because God has opened the way for more avenues of distribution. For more information, go to SBCV Mission Projects.
Your church can also get involved by getting a team together and going on a Southern Cross trip. If you are interested in getting a team together to help hand out the packets or being a key leader, please contact your area missionary.
