About The SBCV...
Meet & Contact Us...
The Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia is a fellowship of Southern Baptist Convention churches cooperating to assist local congregations in their task of fulfilling the Great Commission as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ. The following deeply held convictions serve as a framework for how we work together in a cooperative effort to reach our state, nation, and world in the saving name of Jesus:
Our foundation is the Word of God. Our fellowship is built on healthy relationships. Our focus is strengthening the local church. Our function is to assist churches to be on mission. Our future includes church planting. Our objectives flow out of our Purpose Statement and Core Values. They set the parameters for what we do, hold us accountable, and help us write goals and action plans.
Strengthen existing churches by: providing opportunities for leadership development. equipping Sunday School leaders. providing training in evangelism strategies. providing stewardship and missions education. providing church strategic planning (revitalization).
Support pastors, staff, and their families by: providing mentoring, accountability, and spiritual development. providing marriage and family enrichment. providing ministry relationship skills training. developing conflict management skills. facilitating placement for pastors and staff. providing student ministerial scholarships.Start new churches by: enlisting sponsor churches. recruiting and developing planters. providing financial resources. prioritizing areas for church planting. providing demographic analysis and research.
Educate and mobilize church volunteers in SBC cooperative missions by: networking and mobilizing local church key leaders. utilizing mission specialists to assist local churches. providing a missions webpage. developing missions partnerships among the churches. networking to provide aid in disaster relief efforts. Born in 1996, the SBCV's conception occurred in a 1993 meeting of about 600 theological conservatives from across Virginia who founded the SBCV Fellowship. The Fellowship remained in its former State Convention as a force for positive change, but labored in vain for a return to the convention's conservative theological moorings. On October 1, 1996, the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Commitee recognized the SBCV as a fully cooperating, official state Baptist convention.
Since that time, God has richly blessed the SBC of Virginia. Scores of churches have been planted, thousands of people have trusted in Jesus Christ, dozens of mission trips in the U.S. and abroad have applied God's ministry globally, and laypersons of all ages and both genders have been equipped for His service.
Our history is brief, but our heritage harks back to Virginia Baptist history and beyond - back to when the world's greatest leaders said, "Go." Our Lord Jesus Christ's Great Commission is the mandate that motivates us to take a grateful glance back, and then turn a confident gaze into the future as He has ordained.
We believe that the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God, and is sufficient as our only infallible rule of faith and practice. We deny that other books are inspired by God in the same way as the Bible. The fundamental truths to which we are committed are expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message with the clarification of inerrancy as described above. The doctrinal position of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia shall not be binding upon any local church; however, the convention recognizes its right and responsibility to determine its identity, including doctrinal parameters, and to include within its affiliation those individual affiliates and churches who can freely agree with it, and to exclude those individuals or churches who do not.
