  Studentz Resources

NEW!  Library Resources
SBCV
has numerous resources for our churches to use in ministering to students.  Reserve these resources early so they will be available at the time you desire to begin your Bible study.  Choose one of the following links for a list of available resources and to reserve materials.

Liberty Link
Liberty University partners with the SBCV to mobilize students to do ministry in SBCV churches around the state. This partnership mentors and disciples students who have a heart for God and ministry, as well as providing an incredible resource for our churches. The SBCV has developed a team of students, led by Steve Bradshaw, that are available for SBCV churches to request.  For much more information and forms, go to the Liberty Link page.

Decision Counseling
Student Ministers can use these resources to help minister to and keep record of students who accept Christ. Download the Decision Card or Decision Counseling Guide in PDF format.

Student Evangelism
The Mission: The SBCV Student Ministry passionately wants to mobilize students and student pastors to be on mission for God in their middle schools, high schools, and college campuses across Virginia. Our churches and student ministries must have a "go and tell" strategy rather than a "come and see" mentality.

The Problem:
Most of our student ministries are growing, but growing at a slower rate than the youth population. Therefore, we have actually fallen further behind in reaching the next generation for Christ. Let's face it, most students aren't going to just show up to church, even if they are invited. 80% of America's teens have never been to church. Only 10% - 12% of America's teens have their name on the roll of a church.* 88% of America's teens are not being reached by ANY church!

The Solution: We, as a body of Christ, must unite together on the campus and share the good news of Jesus Christ. Only then we will see significant growth in our churches.

Where do I start? SBCV Studentz, in partnership with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention, has developed some of the most cutting edge evangelism tools, resources, and strategies to reach the "Millennial" generation. Visit studentz.com for more information.

Event Funding Request:
Request financial assistance from the SBCV for your area-wide rally, training, or crusade. The application form must be completed and turned into the SBCV Student Ministry Consultant. All requests must be made at least 2 months in advance of the event/program in question, preferably before it is even planned. If funding is granted, a report must be turned in to the SBCV office stating the results and outcome of the event/program. Completing the application in no way guarantees that your request will be approved, but all completed forms will be reviewed and responded to in a prompt manner.  In order for the SBCV Studentz to be good stewards of the money that has been graciously given to us by partnering churches, we must be wise in how we allocate those funds back to local church student ministries. To receive SBCV funds, certain criteria must be met.  Click here for application form.

Studentz Ministry Spotlights & Creative Ideas for Student Ministry

We'd love to hear from you! Send us an update on what God is doing in your church's student ministry by emailing us at studentz@sbcv.org. Also check here for creative ideas to impact your ministry!

Creative IDEA...
Did I hear you say VBS for Youth? For many churches, youth VBS means that the youth serve as a great ministry force to assist their church in conducting VBS for children. With VBS being a top evangelism strategy of the SBC, try expanding the vision!
Just ask Josh Kappes, youth pastor at Redlane Baptist in Powhattan. He says, "We have done youth VBS for years and it is a great way to not only evangelize the lost, but engage our core group during the summer months when they are looking for activities".
LifeWay offers a separate curriculum for youth that is fantastic.

Simple tips to making the most of your opportunity...
1) Worried abou the name? Simple, don't call it VBS.
2) Do a youth version of VBS at a separate time or even a different week. This makes it feel different, and still give youth an opportunity to serve in children's VBS.
3) Use the curriculum in a retreat weekend, camp or a weekly program.
4) Get free training in the youth curriculum by attending one of the SBCV Training Clinics offered each spring. Check the SBCV event calendar or the VBS page for more information.
5) For missions, train your youth in the VBS Backyard Bible curriculum and take it to the streets.
