What is Virginia Global Response?

“Virginia Global Response provides an opportunity for churches to mobilize to share the Good News of Jesus as they meet the desperate needs of people. It is taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth while wearing work boots.”

– Dr. Brian Autry,
Executive Director, SBC of Virginia

Meeting human need around the world through God-given Gospel opportunities.

Virginia Global Response serves to provide a humanitarian and compassion ministry platform for churches and individuals to be mobilized for rapid response and ongoing ministry. It is a volunteer, humanitarian ministry serving during times of crisis around the world and advocating for the disenfranchised.

How does Virginia Global Response work?

Virginia Global Response provides churches and volunteers with ministry opportunities on the front lines of crises worldwide.

In partnership with like-minded organizations, Virginia Global Response connects churches and individuals with an impacted community in order to meet a wide range of needs. In rapid response situations, individuals who have been trained in disaster relief will be called upon to mobilize quickly.* Virginia Global Response also serves to connect churches and individuals to opportunities to provide continuing aid to areas and populations as they recover from crisis.

*Volunteers from other states and churches are welcome to come serve with Virginia Global Response teams.
Virginia Global Response heeds to the standards as set by The Sphere Project.

Why do we go?

“…I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.”
Matthew 25:40

“Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”
Matthew 5:42

He said to “Give a cup of cold water”…
but do it in His name!
Matthew 10:42; Mark 9:41

The Biblical examples are numerous. Jesus told those around him over and over that we should not turn our back on those who need us the most. This is why SBC of Virginia is starting Virginia Global Response – a humanitarian effort with an evangelistic purpose. The goal is to share the good news of the gospel where God leads – the vehicle is humanitarian efforts. We’ve been doing this locally and nationally through Disaster Relief since 2002. Now we are taking it to the ends of the earth with the help of the SBC and gospel partners.

We’ve seen again and again what happens when SBC of Virginia churches reach out to the needy in their own backyard or across an ocean.

  • This summer a major baptism service for hundreds of former Muslims is being held in Germany at a church where SBCV mission volunteers have been working alongside national church leaders.
  • In Nepal, a local pastor was able to baptize new believers on land given by village leaders… leaders who only 5 years before persecuted and tortured this pastor. SBCV mission volunteers have been on the ground there since a major earthquake 1 year ago and their work has softened the hearts and minds of those who have seen them toil in the soil for so long.
  • SBCV mission volunteers have been the hands and feet of Jesus on the Greece-Macedonian border since October of 2015. Dozens of former Muslims have come to Christ and hundreds have been touched by the gospel as they’ve made their way along the refugee road.

SBC of Virginia churches, we can be the ones to help and make an eternal difference. We can do it together and we can start now! Pray for God to move even more churches to join together to reach the lost in places like Greece, Barcelona, and Nepal… and beyond!
