On July 13, heavy rain fall caused severe flash flooding in the Whitewood area of Buchanan County. Nearly 95 homes were impacted and 32 of those are completely destroyed. Some roads are still impassable.
Our Disaster Relief team connected with SBCV churches to help meet needs. A trailer loaded with flood recovery equipment, generators, and fuel was immediately made available at Garden Baptist Church. A shower unit was also setup at Twin Valley High School.
An 80-year-old woman rode out the storm on her bed and prayed until the water stopped rising. SBCV Disaster Relief volunteers are replacing all the drywall in the house that was damaged by the flood (see photos below).
Your prayers are needed for the families in the middle of this crisis. Please also pray for the volunteers there now and will go in the days that follow. Consider giving. Every gift goes directly to help those who lost everything. And sign up for Disaster Relief training! There are upcoming opportunities that will prepare you to help in times just like this one.
