Distractions are life’s little interruptions to our somewhat “normal” life. I don’t know why we are surprised by them, but we are. Distractions can be reading a negative comment about your church on social media, overthinking what someone said to you, thinking you’re not good enough to do the job, second guessing your decisions, or trying to please everyone around you. We can also be distracted by our own wants and desires. The list goes on and on. How do we balance it all?
Distractions push our attention to something else less meaningful and can take time away from the work God has for us. They can leave us tired and unmotivated. Distractions are time stealers. It’s the enemy’s trap to keep us unfocused. What helps me to overcome distractions is to lay them at God’s feet and pick up the principals of His word.
Here are some ways to help with life’s distractions:
Prioritize your time.
Give God first place. Quiet time with God is the most important part of your day. Ask yourself, what is the most important thing you should be doing at home, church or work? Sometimes we can be involved in too much and we feel stretched and unable to complete it well. Pray the Holy Spirit reveals what’s important and trust the Lord. God is the voice of truth. Follow His lead.
“…He who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye.” Psalm 32:8
Process and evaluate what you do with your time and weed out unnecessary tasks.
Commit your daily activities to the Lord. Remain in His love.
“Commit everything you do to the Lord.” Psalms 37:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches, if you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Prepare your mind, and heart, be alert and ready for the mission God has for you.
He has the perfect plan.
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalm 37:4
Distractions will come. Knowing how to face them comes only from the power of God, because with God all things are possible!!
Sometimes I ache for eternity, I often long for that perfect peace, comfort and rest that God promises us when we get to heaven…but until then, God has a mission for me right here, right now and I need to be ready and prepared for that mission! Are you ready?
Don’t allow life’s distractions be the reason you miss a Godly opportunity.
