For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.” (Matthew 21:32)
In Matthew 21, Jesus tells this short little Parable about a father, who has two sons. The father goes to his first son and says to him, “Son, go and work in the Vineyard.” The first son replied, “No, I will not.” However, sometime later, we are told that the son changes his mind and does go and work in his father’s vineyard. Then the father goes to his second son and says, “Go and work in the Vineyard.” The second son says, “Yes Sir, I will,” but he doesn’t actually go and work in the vineyard.
Think about that in terms of our relationship with God as our Heavenly Father, who has a vineyard that needs laborers to work the harvest. He has come to us and said, “Go and work in the harvest field.” Which of the two sons will we be? It seems to me that we are often like the second son that says, “yes,” but doesn’t go. I pray that God would do something incredible in our lives to give us the heart of a son that sees the harvest and goes.
