On your very hardest day, what you will fall back on is your calling.
I can still remember sharing this conclusion with multiple individuals after recognizing it through years of working for a non-profit ministry.
It permeated in me so deeply – the way the call of God was like a lifeline on the days that gutted me.
Not that we receive our confidence in what we do, but rather in knowing that the One who extends to us the call also gives us everything we need to walk in it well.
Over a decade later with a transition to vocational ministry, marriage, motherhood…in all facets of life, it has steadily rung true without wavering.
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are called to live a life ministering to others. But the weight of operating in ministry in a vocational capacity of any type is something that cannot be understood without having been there. It is hard. A type of hard that touches the most personal spaces of who we are as human beings.
The particular type of hard can vary based on the specifics of what we are doing. Similarly, other roles in life also have their own varying and unique challenges:
Being a friend.
A daughter.
A coworker.
A wife.
A mom.
Every role is an assignment. That is why it is crucial we are confident that God has called us to where we are.
If we know without a shadow of a doubt that God has called us to where we are, then regardless of how challenging the challenge is, we know we are where we are supposed to be until He leads us elsewhere.
This does not make our circumstances easier, but it makes them worth it. Because we recognize it is not about how we feel but rather doing it unto the Lord. (Col. 3:23)
Wherever you are today, it is my sincere hope that you are able to find gratitude within your heart for the calling that God has placed on you, knowing that He is with you in it.
