As we go through different seasons, our habits tend to change. For myself, during busier seasons, I can fall behind on prioritizing cooking at home and choosing healthier food. My schedule has finally begun to slow down a bit, and I have found myself mentally taking note to begin planning out my grocery and cooking schedule. Food is fuel for our bodies, and we choose whether to provide good or bad sustenance to function. As this thought came to my mind, I also began to feel the conviction of feeding not only my body, but my soul with things that bring life. If we worry more about our physical health than our spiritual, we will struggle to grow in the most important area of our lives.
Sometimes I fear that Christians miss the mark in how we consume content. We often try our best to keep what we view and hear as “clean” as we can. While this is the goal, I think that we also need to be mindful to fill ourselves up with things of Biblical substance.
Psalm 51:10 says:
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
The content that we consume may not be inappropriate, but is it building you up? Is it solely something that takes up your time and energy, without any benefits? I believe that what we allow ourselves to take in impacts us more than we will ever know. We need to pray for discernment to filter through the secular content that constantly surrounds us.
James 4:8:
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Take time to evaluate what you are spending your time and energy on and be mindful of content that is simply a time filler. We now live in a day and age where we have access to so many wonderful resources. Seek out the content that has substance and draws you closer to the Father.
