In this world where everyone is striving to feel important and significant, we are often left feeling less than. There is such a fierce competition in media and society to be the most significant or relevant, and it leaves many feeling like they will never measure up. It leaves many feeling like they aren’t as important as others.
But I have a truth for you. We are each an integral part of God’s perfect plan. We each play a key role in His story.
It is so easy to feel small in this large world full of capable and more qualified people. Can each of us really matter that much? There are so many people in this world, how could He possibly use me?
When you find yourself asking these questions, look back to Scripture. Have you tried counting how many people made it into God’s word? Let’s just say there’s a lot, and each of them served a purpose in God’s story just like you and I do. There are some who even went without being named, but they were important enough to be included in God’s Word.
When Jesus went into Simon’s house, a weeping woman approached Him, fell to her knees, and anointed His feet with perfume and tears. Simon disapproved, because she was a sinner, but Jesus said to him, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she, with her tears, has washed My feet and wiped them with her hair” (Luke 7:44). Jesus saw her actions as pure demonstrations of the faith that she found in Him, and he forgave her for all of her sins just as He forgives us.
The sinful woman, given no name, was brought into God’s story to show that our actions and lives are significant. We have a special role to play in God’s story. We each were created to serve the Lord with our different talents and abilities. This woman was able to serve Him quite literally, and we are given the gifts and ability to serve and worship, as well.
The Lord sees us and values us even when the world doesn’t.
This woman wasn’t valued by those around her, but in serving the Lord, she found her significance. Maybe you don’t feel valued by those around you. Maybe you just feel like you aren’t good enough. But you are. If you are breathing, you have a purpose. Worship the Lord with all that you have, and you will find strength and significance in who you were created to be.
God created you. God formed you and has a plan for you.
Don’t allow this world to make you feel less than others. Don’t allow your status or situation to keep you down. God knew you before you were born, and He has a special role for you to play in His story.
