…for ‘All flesh is like the grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.’ And this word is the good news that was preached to you.” (1Peter 1:24-25)
It seems that no matter where you turn today, you run into a wall of bad news. From television, to web articles, to social media — bad news seems to take center stage. Sometimes it can even feel like we are drowning in a sea of news that reflects nothing but brokenness and death. So, we begin to wonder if there is any good news at all.
The wonderful thing about the Christian life is that no matter the amount of bad news we come across; we are people who are grounded in good news. In fact, we are people who find our identity in the best news of all — the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection reminds us that no matter the severity of the pain we experience nor the darkness we witness in this life, the Gospel shines like a bright beacon of hope. By faith in the Gospel we are forgiven — credited a righteousness not our own, adopted into God’s family, in dwelt by the Holy Spirit, and have been promised an eternal inheritance that can never be stripped away. That is glorious news! So Christian, when you feel overwhelmed by the sorrows of this world, set your gaze heavenward and dwell deeply upon the Gospel of King Jesus.
