Ministry Description and Requirements
The pastor…
1. shall be an ex-officio member of all organizations, departments, and committees,
2. may call special meetings of the deacons or any committee should the need arise, and
3. shall conduct religious services on stated and special occasions and administer the ordinances, and
4. shall, alongside the chairman of the deacons, serve as a spokesman for Elon Baptist Church concerning issues and stances approved by the congregation.
The pastor shall have special charge of the pulpit ministry of the church and shall, in cooperation with deacons, provide for pulpit supply when he is absent and shall arrange, with the concurrence of the deacons, for workers to assist in revival meetings and in other special services.
He shall be the administrative head of the church and shall supervise the work of such assistant ministers as the church may employ.
Other duties may include (but are not limited to):
1. Perform wedding ceremonies and conduct funeral services
2. Assist in the development of the weekly worship service bulletin
3. Assist in the development of the monthly newsletter and calendar
4. Teach “Pastor Bible Study” Sunday School Class
5. Cooperate with and lead the church in cooperating with associational, state, and denominational organizations, such as but not limited to:
• LBA – (Lynchburg Baptist Association)
• SBCV – (Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia)
• SBC – (Southern Baptist Convention)
