Two things I ask of you… Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches…lest I be full and deny you and say,“Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” (Proverbs 30:7-9)
What would you do if you won an Italian luxury sports car valued at over $350k? Utah resident David Dopp had the rare opportunity to make that decision, winning a Lamborghini in 2011. Instead of carefully taking care of his new possession, he carelessly took joy rides around town, recklessly crashing his new car within hours.
For the Christian, lasting joy is found pursuing what cannot be lost in a moment, leaving only “wrecked” hope. Every believer would be wise to pursue the two treasures of Proverbs 30:7-9. Believers should seek character, an integrity that models Christ, and contentment, an attitude that affirms God’s loving sovereignty in our lives. Fallen character and earthly distractions will rob us of joy and draw our affections away from Christ and His calling for our lives.
Lord, provide for us exactly what we need that our lives may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ(1 Peter 1:7).
