Light – “the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible”
Darkness – “absence of visible light”
My husband recently spent an extended time in the hospital. I stayed with him as long as I could and sometimes found myself driving home in the dark. A very familiar interstate suddenly became a dark, ominous, unfamiliar stretch of highway. Nothing looked familiar in the dark. I felt insecure and uncertain about the direction I was headed. At one point I was able to turn on the high beams which helped tremendously. I could see better and felt more secure. By turning up the light, I made it to my destination.
Life is a lot like that. Many stumble around in the darkness unable to find their destination. They are insecure, confused, and uncertain. Many are headed in the wrong direction. Fortunately, Light is available, but they don’t know how to turn it on much less turn it up! Jesus spoke directly to this issue when He said:
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Acts 13:47
As Christians, we have the answer to the woes of darkness, the uncertainty of the future. Firstly, many are not aware the Light exists. In my mind, the best way to inform them is to allow them to see it in us. Seeing is believing. When they see the Light the natural inclination is to want the Light for themselves!
“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven…” Mathew 5:16
Secondly, as babes, they will need some nourishment to guide them. We must share how we acquired the Light and what we do to keep it burning bright within us. We share the “instruction book” which gives detailed “how tos” and introduces them to prayer – the direct connection through which the Light flows.
Again, how do we dispel the darkness in the lives of other people? How do we make them feel more confident? How do we eliminate confusion? How do we help them reach their ultimate destination? We strive to have clean hearts that reflect the highest wattage of the Light possible and then share how the Light is guiding us through the darkness to our ultimate destination. We reflect the benefits of “High Beams.”
Since darkness is described as the absence of light, let’s turn up the Light to stimulate sight and make things visible!!!
“Once I was blind but now I can see… the Light of the world is Jesus” (in Him there is no darkness at all!).
