The Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBC of Virginia) is proud to announce Dr. Brian Autry as the new executive director. The SBCV Executive Board unanimously approved Autry this morning (May 8, 2012) just before 9am. His position will go into effect May 16.
Autry will relieve interim executive director Dr. Doyle Chauncey, replacing former executive director, Dr. Jeff Ginn, who is now the senior pastor of Istrouma Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, La.
The SBCV Executive Board desired to follow God’s will in selecting the new leader of the team, so they established a search committee very soon after Ginn resigned in June 2011. Ginn’s resignation went into effect August 1, 2011. Dr. Kelly Burris, pastor of Kempsville Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va., was named chairman of the committee.
The committee evaluated and considered multiple candidates from across the nation for the position. After much prayer, it was unanimously decided that Autry’s name would be presented to the SBCV Executive Board for a vote.
“He wants to plant strong churches that stay strong,” Burris said during his presentation to the board. “He wants SBCV to mentor and encourage courageous leaders; to lead the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in planting ethnically diverse congregations; to advance Christ’s mission—the Great Commission—by mobilizing followers of Jesus; [and] to see our members become our missionaries.”
Autry, at 41, is a long-time member of the SBCV. He began working for the SBCV in 2000 as the student evangelism director. In 2002, he left the SBCV to plant a church in Moseley, Va. The church, Parkway Baptist Church, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary.
Autry graduated from James Madison University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in both psychology and political science. Autry earned his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. In 2002, he received his doctorate from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a focus in evangelism, church growth, and church consulting.
Autry and his wife Jennifer have three children: Melissa, Mark, and Jenna.
