In light of today’s decisions handed down by the Supreme Court, we affirm the Biblical stand taken by the churches of the SBC of Virginia. The first decision struck down the Defense of Marriage Act which denied benefits to legally married gay couples and the second decision upheld a lower courts ruling striking down the gay marriage ban in California.
As stated in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, which every SBC of Virginia church adopts,
“Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.”
~ Excerpt from Baptist Faith and Message 2000
The SBC of Virginia is disappointed in today’s decisions. But we continue to pray for God’s blessing on our nation and for God’s people to proclaim His good news which is the Gospel.
We are blessed to be part of a strong church fellowship that prays and works to help others wherever and whenever they are in need.
