NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. – Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, a group of volunteers who help with disaster recovery, started work in Natchitoches Parish Monday.
SBDR is the third largest relief agency in the country, with hundreds of thousands of volunteers. It is made up of chaplains, assessors and debris removal teams. All have gone through disaster recovery training.
Bill Collins, a local volunteer and campus minister for Northwestern State University, said they bring everything from teams who can help tear our mold from homes, to washing machines and even mobile shower units.
As of Monday morning, there were more than 450 names on their list of homes that needed to be assessed and cleaned-up. SBDR has teams of volunteers from local church groups and some from as far as Missouri and Virginia.
