Today let’s pray for two of our missionaries serving in Canada: Steven and Cindy Martins. Drive through New York State through Buffalo, north past Niagara Falls and into Canada. Veer left just a bit and you’re at the city of St. Catherines, not far from the U.S./Canada border.
The metro area has more than 400,000 people. St. Catharines is mostly an English-speaking part of Canada. But it’s also home to more than 14,000 Spanish speakers. That’s the main group Steven and Cindy want to reach for Christ, without turning away anyone else. They have planted Sevilla Chapel as a Spanish/English church, meeting in a storefront building downtown on Merritt Street.
Steven leads members to use the shoe leather approach to evangelism — they go door to door, meet people and talk about Jesus. As they talk, they use the simple “Three Circles” plan to explain how only Jesus Christ can meet spiritual needs. When possible, members continue meeting with interested people and teaching the Bible. Sometimes they lead an entire family to faith and church membership. Each year the church ministers to migrant farm workers in the area, providing food, clothing and other necessities, along with the Gospel. Sometimes the church holds block parties with crafts, music and food to meet people.,
Let’s ask the Lord to bless Steven, Cindy and their three kids as they serve the Lord in Canada. Our church supports them through the Cooperative Program. Let’s pray for them now.
