“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
I’ve always loved being on the water. Many years ago, I remember an uncle of mine demonstrating the key to water navigation. He would take us out into the Chesapeake Bay.Once we were out quite aways from shore, he would step aside from the helm and allow me to steer his boat. I can still hear Uncle Walter telling me, “Find a fixed point and make sure that no matter what (the current, waves, or distractions), you continue to aim toward that point.”
In life, there are waves that may slap at us, winds that will push against us, and many things that may distract us—but the key to navigating life is to fix our eyes on the Savior, making sure we stay motivated and calibrated.I know that, “He’s got this.”
Lord, thank you that you never fail or disappoint. You are that fixed point that will never shift and change. You alone are the only one who will calibrate our lives perfectly.
