“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
Years ago, a friend was preparing for church one cold and frosty Sunday morning. He was living in his grandmother’s former home that sat a few hundred feet from where he could park.
That morning as he made the journey to his car, finding the windows covered in frost he started his car and walked inside his cousin’s home to share a cup of coffee while the car warmed up.
After a few minutes he looked outside only to find his car on fire. The fire department arrived but they couldn’t get water from the hydrant—the car was a total loss.
He went on to church. My wife and I gave him a ride home after lunch to inspect the car more closely. I opened the door and reached inside to find his large print Bible. The bible had no fire or water damage—only a little soot. Everything around it was burned. I am reminded that through all of life’s challenges the word of God cannot be destroyed. It will stand forever.
