Leaders do not have all the answers
I remember stepping into my first leadership position. I had such admiration for the women in leadership who seemed confident, wise, and at home in their roles. I was not! But I learned that leaders don’t need to have all the answers; they need to depend on the One who DOES. As long as I stay teachable, God can use even my imperfection to impact women.
People are people…even Christians
Ministries are full of people, so you can count on serving alongside and leading imperfect, flawed human beings. Even those indwelt by the Holy Spirit can make mistakes and (gasp) disagree with you. Having conflict is not a sin— how you handle it can be. The unity of the Spirit can be kept when we keep short accounts and seek to make peace rather than be right. That person who’s right all the time? They’re usually doing ministry by themselves.
Trust that God is using YOU to lead
I entered the role of Women’s Ministry Director having been mentored under the previous Director. She’s a gifted leader with awe-inspiring talent. I don’t have all her strengths! Eventually I accepted that I don’t need to lead just like her to be leading “right”. I must trust God knew what He was doing when He called me to this role. I bring Him my loaves and fishes, and HE uses them to meet the leadership needs of our ministry.
