Hurricane Michael was a Category 4 storm when it hit the Florida Panhandle on October 10. Millions of people lost power, many lost homes due to strong winds, flooding, and fallen trees as the storm weakened into a tropical storm and made its way through Virginia. Our neighbors need your prayers, gifts, and time. Here’s how our Disaster Relief teams are helping.

SBC of Virginia Disaster Relief has been asked to meet all of the chainsaw needs in the county surrounding Dawson, Georgia. We will need teams for several weeks beginning this October 16. The first team will serve just five days, then each team will rotate weekly on Sundays. We will also need feeding volunteers to feed SBCV teams and an Incident Command team.
There are also opportunities for untrained workers to deploy as Send Relief volunteers and work as a part of the chainsaw team (moving debris), so be sure to share this with your church. For untrained volunteers participating in Send Relief, we do ask that you complete the online training found here. This is for your information and safety.
Please pray – for the survivors, first responders, and Disaster Relief volunteers.
Please give – without your continued generous donations, this ministry could not function.
Please go – trained DR volunteers or untrained Send relief volunteers are needed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted from this powerful storm. SBC of Virginia missionaries and Disaster Relief personnel are assessing damage around the state. If you have damage and need assistance please email us at DisasterRelief@sbcv.org. Crews are on standby ready to assist you.
If you have not been impacted by the storm please consider giving financial support. This will go a long way to assisting efforts to help the thousands who need help from both Hurricane Florence and now Hurricane Michael. You can give today by clicking the donate button on this webpage. Also, if you would like to go and be a part of the disaster relief response, visit our training opportunities found at sbcv.org/dr.
