“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; Wait for the Lord!”(Psalm 27:14)
Waiting is brutal. The phrase: “God’s never early, He’s never late, He’s always right on time,” sounds good on a coffee mug. But when your life is unravelling at the seams, waiting upon God to reveal His will can be painful. There is a struggle to trust God’s timing. Our culture celebrates impatience, but the Bible beckons us to wait on God.
Why is waiting upon God so difficult yet necessary?
- Waiting is work to the flesh. Strenuous work. We face a tug-of-war between our nature that hungers for independence, and God who desires for us to be dependent upon Him.
- Waiting is worship to the Lord. During dark nights of seeming hopelessness, we may cry out to God in desperation. This pleases God. We are worshipping Him with our trust as we wait.
- Waiting is worth it in the end. Remember: It’s not how you start, but how you finish. Life’s most satisfying moments are when we ponder trials that have served to strengthen our faith. We are being sanctified through our waiting.
Be encouraged as your confidence in God flourishes. Wait joyfully, and don’t lose heart.
