Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
There is a saying in Vermont I learned a few years ago, “You can’t get there from here,” meaning can’t always get ‘there’ in winter. Vermont is a beautiful place. It is known as “The Green Mountain State” and it lives up to that name in the summer. But winter is another matter. A drive over the mountain to a nearby village in summer can be quick, but the same drive in winter often can’t be made due to snow blocking mountain passes.
I am reminded of the adage when I hear people say that there are many roads to heaven, and it is dependent on your good deeds outweighing your bad deeds. That belief is not Biblical and can’t get you to heaven,“You can’t get there from here.”
When Jesus says “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” he is stating the fact that He is God’s exclusive way to salvation and eternal life by Grace through faith in His death and resurrection. There is no other way.He is the only way to get there from here.
