In our prayer time today, let’s think about how our church’s ministry to people in New Orleans over the years to come. The key to how this will happen is DeAron Washington. We want to pray for him today.
When he was in college, DeAron studied psychology. But after he came to faith in Christ, he realized that the Gospel of Christ was the only real solution to help people cope with their problems. So, he began training to become a Christian counselor. That took him to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he began working on a Ph.D. in counseling. Our church supports that seminary through our Cooperative Program. In fact, we support all six of our Southern Baptist seminaries that way. More than 20,000 total students are getting training that is solidly Bible-based but at less cost than what most seminaries charge.
As DeAron completes his degree, he already does some instruction at the seminary. And he is helping people who come to the seminary’s counseling center for help. See how the Cooperative Program works? Our church is investing in DeAron’s education and training. Our “payoff” will be DeAron ministering to people’s needs for many years to come. That’s the kind of payoff we like to hear about! Let’s pray for DeAron and his ministry now.
