In the old days, missionaries used to hike through rough places for hours to get to lost people who needed to hear the gospel. Guess what: Missionaries still do that! Today in our prayer time we’re going to pray for two of our missionaries, Pierce and Casey Bennett. They serve in South Asia, but we cannot say where.
The last time Pierce preached, he and a national partner drove for hours, then parked and hiked through rough terrain for hours. They had to detour around landslides. After wading through a creek, they had to pick off the blood-sucking leeches. But they got to a village and shared the gospel. Another time they showed a video about Jesus. One villager was awed: “He (Jesus) came back to life!” he said.
Most people here are Hindus with many gods or else they worship the spirits. They live in constant fear that one of their false gods will hurt them or bring them bad luck. One so-called god they cannot call on at night because it might attack them.
Think of a woman spreading manure around her house to keep away evil spirits! A true God who loves: Good News indeed! A Savior who redeems? Amazing! Our church supports Pierce and Casey in that rugged place through the Cooperative Program. Let’s pray for them. The “old days” are happening there!
