Dr. Stephen B. Eccher
Associate Professor of Church History and Reformation Studies, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
Stephen Eccher (PhD and MLitt, University of St. Andrews; Reformation Studies Institute) is Associate Professor of Church History and Reformation Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, where he has taught since 2012. His academic work focuses primarily on Reformation history and theology, especially at the intersection of the sixteenth century Swiss Reformed and Swiss Anabaptist traditions.
He is the author of numerous journal articles and chapters on the Protestant Reformation. Stephen has a forthcoming book entitled Zwingli the Pastor: A Life in Conflict (Bellingham: Lexham Press, 2023). His most recent publications include “Balthasar Hubmaier (1480-1528),” in Jennifer Powell McNutt and Herman Selderhuis (editors), The Oxford Handbook for the Bible and the Reformation (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2023), “Reformation Theology,” co-authored with J. Andrew Dickerson, in Daniel Akin, Nathan Finn, and David S. Dockery (editors), A Handbook of Theology (Nashville: B&H Academic, 2023) and “Unit Three: Theology in the Reformation Era (1500-1700); Chapter 9: Salvation,” in Jason Duesing and Nathan Finn (editors), Historical Theology for the Church (Nashville: B&H Academic, 2021).
Stephen and his wife Cara have four daughters and have been members at Open Door Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina for twenty-three years where Stephen serves as an elder.
