Pray for Mitchell and Liz Heinz, two of our International Mission Board missionaries who have spent more than a decade sharing the Gospel with a Northeastern Brazilian tribe.
The tribe lives across 14 villages on a large reservation. Since 2012, Mitchell and Liz have visited faithfully, building friendships and sharing God’s Word through Chronological Bible Storying.
For years, fear of tribal leaders kept people from following Christ. But God opened a door through Mara, the only Christian in the tribe at the time. Through her, Mitchell and Liz met Mor and her husband Osvaldo, who became key leaders in forming an indigenous church.
That church soon faced persecution. One couple lost their jobs because of their faith. But when their persecutor, Sue, experienced a crisis, the believers prayed for her. God answered. Sue’s son was found safe, and her heart softened toward them.
Today, Mitchell says there is more openness to the Gospel than when they first arrived. The Heinzs have now passed leadership to national partners, who continue the work.
Let’s pray for this young church that God would give them strength and courage to stand firm in Christ.
