As the new school year begins, I am blessed to welcome both returning and new students into my classroom. With all the busyness in preparing for my students, I am reminded that God is intentional and has placed me where I am with a purpose.
I have the opportunity of teaching numerous students of a wide age range. From my youngest to oldest student, all are unique and are going through different challenges of their own. They are all on an individual journey to discover who God is, and I am honored that God has allowed me to share His love with them.
Working as a teacher, I have been a part of many students’ day-to-day lives. While this is an incredible blessing, it is also a responsibility God has given me. Through the years, I will have taught hundreds of students. With this time, I also have the opportunity to invest in their lives. If I am not spiritually growing myself, I know that I cannot help my students to grow in their own walk with the Lord.
As I think about where my students will be in the future, I pray that I will have impacted them as much as they have me. As Christ has called us to share the gospel, I pray that my influence in their lives will empower them to go on and be a light for Christ. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says, “‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” Imagine how God could use these students to share His love with the world?
You may not be a teacher, but no matter where you are in life, you have an opportunity to share Christ’s love with the next generation. How you treat others will have a significant effect on how they view Christ and the church. Your words and actions can impact students more than you will ever know.
