Belgium is a small country between France and Germany. That’s where our prayer focus is today — on our missionaries Don and Pam Lynch. Our church supports them through our Cooperative Program giving.
Southern Belgium is mostly French-speaking; the northern half speaks Flemish, a kind of Dutch. Don and Pam serve in the north.
It’s a beautiful country of stately old buildings and prosperous-looking cities.
But appearances are deceiving. There are relatively few evangelical Christians among the country’s 11.7 million people. That’s why Belgium has many suicides and people suffering from depression, Don and Pam say.
Belgians usually make friends slowly and do not readily invite strangers into their homes.
To be able to talk about Jesus, Don and Pam use coffee. They have a bicycle equipped with a generator and coffee bean grinder so they can prepare quality coffee like Belgians prefer.
With their mobile coffee shop and a sign. they can set up a station in parks or other outside venues. People come for free coffee, but often stay to talk of life or problems — and Jesus.
Let’s pray that our wide-awake missionaries will lead many Belgians to the hope found only in Jesus Christ.
