Jesus modeled that His followers are to meet physical needs as the Gospel is sown and proclaimed.

Your church can partner with a local feeding ministry or food pantry to meet immediate and urgent needs in the community.

Global Hunger Sunday
August 24, 2025

“I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat…” Matthew 25:35

World hunger is the highest it has been in 40 years, and it continues to grow. We as Southern Baptists want to give like never before to help relieve the pain and suffering that hunger brings to every corner of the world. Join churches across the nation as we pray and give to bring food to the hungry and the Gospel to the lost.

The hunger statistics in Virginia may surprise you. There are one in nine Virginians who face the daily challenge of not knowing where their next meal will come from. For children, the statistics are even greater. In 2024, your giving through the Global Hunger Fund and Vision Virginia provided over 100,000 meals through the SBCV Hunger Relief ministries. Through these hunger ministries, 161 people came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Your giving makes an immediate and eternal difference in so many lives.

Pray

Pray for those in hard places who have no way to feed their own families.
Pray for churches all over Virginia to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they encounter many struggling to provide basic needs for their families.
Pray that as we meet physical needs, we will boldly share God’s love and message of salvation with everyone.

In Our World

Natural disasters, ongoing droughts, famine, refugee crises, rising food costs, and war all contribute to the overwhelming needs of our world today. 70% of the world’s hungry people live in areas afflicted by war and violence. Our partner ministries offer help and hope to the most vulnerable communities.

In Your Community

Around 9.3% of Virginia households were food insecure in 2024 and with food costs on the rise, that number is expected to grow. SBCV churches are actively meeting those needs right here at home. From food pantries, feeding stations, grocery distribution, and holiday meals, your gifts are at work serving food and sharing Christ. SBC of Virginia supports nine hunger ministries throughout the state to meet needs and change lives. For 2025, we have allocated nearly $80,000 to these hunger ministries. Your giving to the Global Hunger Fund and Vision Virginia helps meet immediate needs and makes an eternal impact on the lives of Virginians throughout the Commonwealth.

In the SBCV

Hyland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg provides relief for hungry families in their area. (Include the story and video about their feeding ministry.) They also shared the impact on one of their participants.

One of our participants overheard that we needed Hispanic translators and asked if she could volunteer. Then, she started coming to church. She grew up Catholic but now has professed her faith in Jesus and was baptized. What a praise!!

In 2024, Craig Valley Baptist Church made special boxes for the elderly and low-income that live nearby in two housing complexes. They shared how much they loved seeing the smiles on their faces.

How Can I Help?

Giving to the Global Hunger Fund on Global Hunger Sunday and year round makes an impact globally and here in Virginia. Seventy percent of every dollar goes to Send Relief, an organization that supports gospel-centered hunger projects in the U.S. and across the globe. Thirty percent of every dollar goes to the SBCV Hunger Funds which directly meets the needs of Virginians. Giving to Vision Virginia helps SBCV to supplement the Global Hunger gifts and to meet ongoing and immediate needs as they arise.

Won’t you prayerfully consider how God would have you help ease the pain of hunger to those in need? Your gift can make a difference by meeting needs and sharing God’s love with our neighbors both far and near
