It’s missions prayer time today. Where will we go? To Canada. Open a map, look up north of Maine, and swing out over the Atlantic — you’ll see an island. That’s St. John’s, Newfoundland, where the community of Kilbride is.
Kilbride is where our missionaries, Matt and Ruth Lahey, planted a new church in 2021. Now, a new church is a cause for rejoicing anywhere. But this place is special. Before Matt and Ruth planted Kilbride Community Church, there had not been an evangelical church in 132 years.
They first tried a Bible study. One person came in seven weeks. During COVID-19 days, they did a lot of publicity. Slowly people came and the church began to grow. People here think of a church as a building, not as a group following Christ. Growing a strong church will take time.
A town without a New Testament church is a sad thing. But there are hundreds of towns across Canada like that. Our North American Mission Board is sending as many missionaries as possible up to Canada to reach the many lost people there.
Our church’s Cooperative Program giving is helping support Matt and Ruth, along with many other missionaries in Canada.
Let’s pray for Matt and Ruth. And let’s ask the Lord to call more missionaries to Canada to join them — and to help reach that land of lostness for Christ.
