Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will become like wool.
Isaiah 1:18
Seeing the excitement and conversation as I walked through the door of the salon brought an unexpected calm. Taking a deep breath, I thought, “God, give me strength to obey your call”. The Lord was stirring my heart to share the gospel, and although I was a bit nervous, obedience was most important that day.
Snow is a sweet Vietnamese girl who does amazing things with my nails for special occasions. She doesn’t speak fluent English, so conversations about anything but manicures can be quite challenging! Therefore, when the Holy Spirit brought Snow to my mind, I began asking God to reveal ways to communicate with her. A web search revealed a tract written in both English and Vietnamese which would allow me to explain the gospel clearly. With my appointment fast approaching, I asked the Father to choreograph a time for us to speak alone. If there was going to be a slow time in her busy salon, I knew it would have to be His providence. That is exactly what happened. God provided a quiet time for a conversation. When I asked if Snow had heard of Jehovah, the One true God, she just shook her head as if she didn’t understand. I handed her the tract and asked her to please read the important message. Her face lit up as she was touched that it was written in her own language! She nodded in agreement, and I left her in the capable hands of the Father. My prayer, now, was that God would speak to her in ways I could not. The next time we spoke, she found the words to explain to me that her children were going to church on Sundays, but she couldn’t go because she had to work. The salon was full that day, so I expressed my excitement about her children, left her a nice tip, and continued to pray.
Several months passed and I was completely surprised when Snow approached me at a local church Harvest event! She introduced me to her children who had been attending that church and my joy could not be contained. God was working! I purchased a Vietnamese/English Bible and highlighted specific verses that explained a bit more of the Good News of Jesus. When I delivered the Bible, Snow was moved, but very quickly added that she was Buddhist. I just smiled and said, “That’s okay.” Despite her new declaration, I believe God is drawing her to Himself. She has not given her life to Christ yet, but I continue to pray that one day she will discover the significance of her name, SNOW. It’s a stunning reminder of how Jesus takes our sin and makes it radiant white.
What about you? Is there someone God is laying on your heart that needs to hear the Good News? It can be scary to share, but God has given a priceless gift that we can offer to others for free. How can we not share?
