Afghan Refugees Relief

With the mass exodus out of Afghanistan, we anticipate thousands of refugees in the coming days and weeks. This provides SBCV churches with ministry opportunities to meet practical needs.

Many refugee families are arriving at Fort Lee, Fort Pickett, and Quantico with very little possessions but the clothes on their back. One way you can help is through a collection of material goods by dropping off supplies thanks to the logistics of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights and Parkway Baptist Church in Moseley. The needs are great. We are focusing on these critical needs. You can also ship supplies online through Amazon or give monetary contribution through Send Relief. Please find specific instructions below.

Fort Pickett Collection & Volunteer Opportunity

Fort Pickett is the one installation in Virginia that is allowing civilians to serve directly with Afghan refugees. The US government is working exclusively through an organization called Team Rubicon for donations and volunteers, and the SBCV is in direct contact with them.

Volunteers are Needed

Your church can help in person. There is a need now to help distribute the donation supplies to Afghan families. In the future, your church can also help with special events like a soccer tournament, movie night, sports day, or English as a Second Language club. VOLUNTEER

Donation Collection

While volunteers are the biggest need (see above), everything donated must be new and still in the packaging. Supplies can be dropped off in the SBCV box truck located at Parkway Baptist Church during office hours Monday – Thursday from 8:30am – 4pm. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, September 22, 2021. There are signs directing where to place your supplies specific to item, sizes, etc. You can find the church at: 8508 Beaver Bridge Road Moseley, 23120

CLOTHING (summer / fall clothes only; winter clothes will be considered starting in late September)

  - Unbranded, modest clothing like long sleeve crew neck shirts, modest short sleeve shirts, pants in all sizes (no shorts, dresses, or tank tops)
- CHILDREN (4yr – 17yr)
  - Same items as listed above in all age ranges and sizes (long sleeves and pants)
- BABY (0mo – 4yr)
  - Baby and newborn clothes, hats, and socks
- MISC CLOTHING
  - Undergarments for men, women, and children
    - Modest underwear

  - Hats for all ages (cold & warm weather)
  - Shoes & slide-on sandals for men, women, and children (no flip flops)
