Let’s head way south in our prayer time today — let’s go to Brazil. That’s where our missionary, Stan Meador, serves and we want to pray for him today. Our church supports him through our Cooperative Program giving. COVID-19 hit Brazil as it did much of the world. Stan had to stop visiting the church leaders he had been teaching. For months, he and his wife were stuck back in the United States.
But he didn’t stop teaching. He switched to message apps and texted lessons, questions and answers to and from students. Marta was one of those students. She was very nervous about studying the Bible on her own. As a former Catholic, she thought she needed a priest — or Stan — to correct her mistakes. But the computer study led Marta to realize she could study the Bible on her own. She saw that what she learned, she should share. She began sharing her lessons with Lucas, her husband, who was not a believer. At first, he listened just to be polite. But his eyes were opened and he, too, began to study the Bible on his own.
One night, he prayed to receive Christ into his life as Savior. When Stan and his wife returned to Brazil, six new believers were ready for baptism. And Lucas was one of those six. Let’s pray now for Stan and those new Christians — and ask that many more will find Jesus.
